Inspiration
Pioneer was
founded by my father,
Michael Cox Sr., in 1981.
Ever since, Pioneer has developed a reputation for competence and integrity in the construction field, earning the respect of the entire industry and greater Long Island community.
Originally a landscaping business, Pioneer moved on to residential driveway and backyard projects, eventually growing to larger, commercial jobs. Since then, separate entities Pioneer Paving and Pioneer Asphalt were created to continue catering to the residential customer.
In 2013, I founded Pioneer Asphalt with the goal of applying my lifelong experience and knowledge to deliver exceptional craftsmanship and service. After more than a dozen seasons and thousands of projects, I discovered my passion for working with natural stone materials. This realization led me to refine our approach—focusing on fewer, more personalized projects, narrowing our service area to the North Shore, and expanding our material offerings beyond traditional asphalt and pavers.
In 2025, I launched Pioneer Provisions – Hardscaping & Earthworks to provide a more natural design experience, offering customers materials like pea gravel, bluestone, brick, and cobblestone. With this avant-garde approach, my goal is to create natural elegance in aesthetics, function, and space efficiency—where every project appears both effortless and inevitable. Our services include but are not limited to driveways, patios, retaining walls, construction, and land clearing.
